Lignano Pinewood

Lignano Pinewood Architecture Competition
ENG   |   ITA

Lignano Pinewood: Architecture Competition | Famous for its natural beauty, Lignano’s Pine Forest represents one of the most distinctive locations of the city: a wild environment characterised by autochthonous vegetation typical of the Adriatic coast. Although today a large part of the Pinewood is protected, several plots are privately owned. The pressures of real estate development are not few and the risk of uncontrolled speculation is now stronger than ever.

The ambitious aim of this competition is to achieve the incorporation of an Eco-Hotel complex immersed within the Pinewood landscape, while simultaneously ensuring the enhancement and preservation of its natural surroundings. Besides, participants will take on the challenge of designing a new Masterplan capable of integrating and re-establishing the connections between the Pinewood area and the rest of the urban fabric.

F.A.Q. Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any restrictions on the number of certain rooms and on the number of users?
No, you can freely decide to design various typologies of rooms, with different services available. The apartment units, instead, have to accomodate a range of 2-6 people each.

Regarding the renovation of the Commercial Plaza, is it allowed to work on the main road (for example by introducing a roundabout or changing the flow of vehicle circulation)?
Yes, as the  intervention on Commercial Plaza regards only the outdoor space.

Is there any required scale for the drawings to be submitted?
No, the drawings can be made with a graphic scale, not necessarily with a metric one. The representation is free, you can include images, photos and everything you think it may be useful to better understand your project.

Regarding the renovation of the Commercial Plaza, is it allowed to demolish the existing buildings on site?
The renovation of the Commercial Plaza regards only the outdoor public spaces. The existing buildings should not be renovated, modified or demolished.

What do the numbers next to the topographic lines express in the dwg file?
The numbers in de dwg file indicate the different heights among the topographic lines. The 0.00 level corresponds to the level of the sea and the numbers are expressed in metres.

The brief states that “The whole complex should cover an overall surface between 10.000 and 12.000 square metres (maximum 40.000 cubic metres)” Could you provide a specific definition of “surface” in the context of the competition brief?
The 10.000/12.000 square meters means the gross floor area, which includes all the covered spaces of the hotel and the independent apartments. All open spaces such as swimming pools, recreational areas, landscape design, parkings (at-grade and underground) etc. will not be counted as covered surface.

Is it possible to design an underground car park, despite the proximity to the sea and Tagliamento river?
Yes, if you think it may be useful to enhance your project, feel free to do it.
